There’s a still life in my sink.

WHAT'S SPECIAL

Kirsty introduces herself and her inspiration for Kirsty's Table.

As I follow the shelter-in-place protocol and wash every single item from the market by hand the minute I get home, I can’t help but stop and notice how beautiful it is. I don’t usually buy quite as much as it’s just the two of us, we are trying to grocery shop just once every 10 days or so. And while I’ve always been mesmerized by beautiful produce – its most the subject of my paintings – on this day I am feeling even more fortunate to have access to such California bounty even during a pandemic. I know that’s not the case for everyone and I wish I could do more for those out there “on the front lines” of the Covid-19 crisis, but the most impactful action we are told we can take to help is to simply stay home. So, we stay home.

As a photographer, I specialize in headshots and portraiture, and since I haven’t been able to go to my studio and photograph clients since early March and for the foreseeable future, I’ve decided to lean into this sudden time “off” at home and fulfill a dream I’ve had for a while – to start this blog where I will share recipes and inspiration I’ve collected, often adapted, and sometimes, developed myself. I’ve been having a blast going through folders of printed pages discovered on the internet, paging through my many dog-eared pages of cookbooks, and cooking up a storm – giving our small but mighty galley kitchen quite a workout. Our time at the table together has become even more meaningful during this ordeal, and I find myself feeling more grateful than before for our health, home, and each other.

While much of what we love to cook is organic, fresh food, during this time I find myself turning to the pantry and freezer more often, and I’m having fun with that challenge. I love to find substitutions and alternatives if ingredients aren’t available or to suit a particular dietary desire and eat mostly gluten-free myself, so you’ll find suggestions and variations so there’s something for everyone. I love simple, colorful dishes and have a big love of tableware. Perhaps it’s the still life painter in me, but I believe each plate is a work of art! So I hope you enjoy seeing some of my paintings, photographs and stories, and find recipes and inspiration here on Kirsty’s Table for yours.

I haven’t placed a recipe in this blog post, but encourage you to go next to Kirsty’s Pesto Possibilities for one of my very own recipes that has many “possibilities”. Many of you have also asked for the recipe of my “coming soon” image holder, so check out One Skillet Roast Chicken Legs and Brussel Sprouts.

I’ll be adding posting lots more entries soon, so check back often, sign up if you haven’t, and follow me on all the social media platforms and share with any of your food-photography-art-loving friends! If you have questions feel free to email me at life@kirstys-table.com.

With love from my table to yours —

Cheers!

Kirsty
